For those of you who are not familiar with me, I would like to take this time to give you a brief history of my past and a preview of my career up to now. I am originally from Texas. I was born in Ft. Hood and raised on a 20 acre ranch in a small town outside of San Antonio called Castroville.
I was riding and showing ponies and horses since the age of 5. My mom had a professional horse training business and I started learning how to help her around the stables.
By the time I was 14, I was giving riding lessons and training horses on my own with occasional advice from mom. Along with volleyball and track in high school, I competed in many events: western pleasure, barrels and pole bending, English pleasure, dressage, and my personal favorite-hunter / jumper.
After graduation, my love of horses took me to a fine arts college in Fulton, MO, where I studied basics and equestrian science for my first year. Unable to return for further studies in Missouri, I took classes at San Antonio College (TX) and gave riding lessons at nearby stables. I also did promotional work for Budweiser, waitressed, and competed in bikini contests!
Slowly the horses have been physically removed from my life, although my love of the sport is still with me. Maybe someday I'll have the opportunity to ride again! In 1991 I started lifting weights with a friend and saw a photo of Marla Duncan winning a national competition. Her beauty and physique impressed me enough that I wanted to try what she was doing - Fitness Competitions.
Up until 1995 I only competed for fun, not as a money making career. In 1994 I was honored with a Muscle & Fitness cover. This helped me realize I had potential to earn some actual money in the fitness industry. I kept competing and in April of '95 moved to the Los Angeles area. Once I arrived, I dove into my career and competed in the IFBB organization two to three times per year.
Making this web site has been fun and exciting too, it is hard to believe that it is actually happening, but here it is! I hope you all enjoy the site and realize I appreciate all of you for visiting!
After four tries, in 1998, I won my first Fitness Olympia and made number 45 on covers of magazines, books, and calendars worldwide. I have had a wonderful time traveling across the country and internationally, and have met some really incredible people everywhere. I feel very blessed and fortunate to be able to do what I enjoy: staying fit, encouraging others, and teaching what I have learned.
